Power & Control is the next single released from Marina and the Diamonds amazing sophomore record Electra heart. Love this song ! Love the video ! Love Marina ! Just perfect !
Florence + The Machine have released a new David La Chapelle and John Byrne directed music video for Spectrum. Spectrum was one of my initial favorites from the album, so I'm glad it was chosen as a single, though I'm still rooting for Only If For A Night.
You can totally see that La Chapelle has had his hands on this, though I would've expected something better from him. I don't even know why really, I don't know his directing as much as I know his photography (which I love). Sure it's all pretty and shining and explosion of colors - but there seems to be something missing.
I do love the setting and the outfits, or should I say costumes ? Cleopatra meets Little Mermaid meets Black Swan. Florence looks really pretty - no - Florence looks the best that she's ever looked donning that layered fringe wig of hers ! But while it is all very beautiful and striking, I do kind of miss her look from Lungs - while this rigid and a bit sinister look she has now goes very well with the songs she's released from Ceremonials, bohemian chic goes much better with Florence.
As I may have hinted yesterday, I was saving a sort of Kylie Megapost for today, even though it was Kylie's Birthday on Monday. On the 25th Kylie released a new song and a very nice video treatment for it in celebration of her 25 glorious years in the music business ! The music video is loaded with throwbacks to her past videos, outfits and performances and I decided to highlight some of them. Wether they're intentional or not, I don't know... but there's a lot. Rather than writing about them, I collected them on a cork board in picture-form for you to look at :) can you spot the similarities ? And what about the stuff that's not listed here ? Happy hunting lovers !
[Note: this post is just a big ridiculous mess, so apolls...]
Hey there. I've been awol for a bit cause I got a new laptop and just been generally busy doing stuff (not really). I also hid my blog for a while for reasons that now escape me so I'm a bit late on my posts so I'm just going to make this a massive catching-up post with music I've been listening to since my last post (3 weeks ago...)
And oh, if anyone has any good creative sources to get me inspired for a new layout for my blog, please go to Facebook and message me at the Lukas Likes Facebook page.
The last few weeks have been quite fruitful with new and old music, for me at least. There was a new iamamiwhoami song, naturally - and we're one song short from the album release (goods will be released next tuesday). In the meantime, take a look and listen to kill, which was released last week. Possibly my favorite from 'kin-era' and one of my favorite iam-tracks ever - respectively shot to most played on my iPod in just a few days after it's release.
Then we also got some (juicy) new music from the ever so lovely Kylie Minogue. The song is called Time Bomb and it's quite alright - sort of reminds me of Giving You Up in a way. The song was released as a part of Kylies K25 celebration of being in da biz for 25 years already. I have, for some reason totally overlooked this in my blog, but there have been some really great stuff released on every 25th of this year from team K ! The video on the other hand is not just quite alright, it's quite amazing !
I looove it ! And I love the subtle hints to her past videos (from the last 25 years obviously) ! I'm going to write a post about this tomorrow. Took me a while to notice, but there are quite a few nods to past videos scattered all around the video which are very obvious to a trained used-to-be Kylie addicts eye.
At the other side of the pond Kelly Clarkson has released the video treatment for the third single from her amazing Stronger album. Dark Side is not my favorite song from the album but the video treatment is not that bad, a bit soppy and so done, but ok. Hopefully Let me Down will be released next.
If you've been reading Lukas Likes for long enough you'll probably remember that one of my favorite albums from last year was Voyage by the swedish duo The Sound Of Arrows. Well, Sound Of Arrows have heard my prayers and released my favorite track, Conquest, from Voyage and there's an AMAZING video treatment for the song ! This is probably one of the very few projects with truly flaw free videos for each of the singles.
A good few albums have found their ways to my iTunes in the last few weeks and I'll be reporting on at least few of them. Garbage and Gossip albums need my reviews definitely. In short: love both ! I've also listened to the new Santigold and Nicki Minaj albums and I'm intrigued to say the least. The me from a few weeks ago would probably gasp in horror of me saying this, but the Nicki album wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...
I should go to bed now.. Four more days of work until I start my summer holidays - which look quite promising already cause there'll be a load of new music coming this summer (NoDoubt and Alanis Morissette to name a few).
